Tomchei Tmimim Ocean Parkway

Welcome to Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim — United Lubavitcher Yeshiva Ocean Parkway!

The original Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch was founded by the fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Sholom DovBer Schneersohn (the Rebbe Rashab) in the summer of 1897 (5657), in the village of Lubavitch, Russia. The yeshivah was the first to integrate the revealed part of Torah (Talmud and Halachah) with the teachings of Chassidism in a formal study program.

With the goal to produce Talmidim, fortified in Torah and Yiras Shomayim and who would positively influence others, these students withstood the winds of a tumultuous world and kept the flame of Yiddishkeit alive in countless communities. Compelled to wander from place to place, the Yeshiva eventually spread out from Russia and has since grown into a vast network of yeshivos around the world.

During World War II, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn (the Rebbe Rayatz) was safely evacuated to the United States. He reestablished the Yeshivah in New York, under the leadership of his son-in-law, Rabbi Shmaryahu Gurary, know as the Rashag. In 1970, Tomchei Tmimim moved from the famous Bedford and Dean location to Ocean Parkway, in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn.

Now, the YTTL-OP is entering a new phase to serve the growing Lubavitch community and meet the needs of our times. Creeping secularization and the continuous and ever-expanding technological revolution is increasingly eroding the traditional Jewish home and community life. A world of knowledge is available at the click of a button or tap of a screen. The shallow concentration level of modern reading and learning habits makes it difficult for many minds to study Torah. The task of the parent and educator has never been harder.

While our educational goals remain unchanged from previous generations, the way in which we meet them the qualities of our educational methods, and the systems we employ must be effective in today’s world, while maintaining the strengths and values of our rich heritage.

YTTL-OP is leading the charge of excellence in Chassidishe Chinuch for our times. We recognize that complete student engagement is at the heart of pedagogical success. Our rigorous learning model trains students not only to memorize, but to think critically on their own. Our teachers are tremendously supported, and given the tools to continually learn and develop as professionals. Our curriculum is designed to promote independent learning and provide children with essential social and life skills.

Above all, we believe that all aspects of teaching and learning must be thoughtfully planned, intentionally designed, and continually measured and evaluated, to ensure that we are meeting our goals for the success of each and every Talmid.
